A Georgia-built front-engine sports car line with real Le Mans pedigree

Panoz Auto Development, founded by entrepreneur Don Panoz in Georgia, built its reputation on front-engine roadsters at a time when nearly every performance car competitor had moved the engine behind the driver. The AIV Roadster (1996–1999, only 176 production cars plus 6 prototypes) proved the concept with a Mustang Cobra-sourced V8 in an aluminum-intensive chassis; the Esperante that followed in 2001 aimed at a more luxurious convertible market. Separately, the race-only Esperante GTR-1 — designed by Adrian Reynard and built with a Roush-constructed V8 — scored 5 outright Le Mans-class wins, with only two street-legal homologation examples ever built.

What published insurance data actually shows

The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) — a nonprofit affiliated with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety — publishes real collision loss statistics by vehicle series, and we cite that data on several of our other marque pages where it exists. It doesn't meaningfully exist for Panoz. HLDI's reporting threshold is 1,000+ insured vehicle years of exposure or 100+ claims nationally in a given study period, and total Panoz road-car production across all variants numbers in the low hundreds — nowhere near that bar, and the street-legal GTR-1 exists in only two examples worldwide. We'd rather tell you plainly that the data doesn't exist than cite a number that isn't real. What this means in practice: a Panoz can't be priced off an actuarial table — it has to be underwritten individually by a carrier that specializes in low-volume American sports cars.

What carriers actually ask before they'll write coverage

Carriers want documentation of what's actually a fairly small, specialist-serviced production run — build records, any documented racing history for GTR-1-adjacent cars, and confirmation of a shop familiar with Panoz's aluminum-intensive construction. For the two street-legal GTR-1 homologation cars specifically, provenance and racing history documentation are essential given the values involved.

Some Panoz owners showcase their car. Others keep it entirely private. Both are covered correctly.

Some Panoz owners drive their Esperante or AIV Roadster regularly, since both were engineered as usable road cars rather than static collectibles. GTR-1 owners, given the car's rarity and racing pedigree, tend toward more careful, event-focused use. Both are legitimate ownership styles, and both change what the policy needs to account for.

An independent brokerage, not a single carrier

We're not captive to one insurance company, and we're not a dealership finance office. That independence is the point: our only job is finding you the right coverage at the right price, then advocating for you if you ever need to use it.

Access to multiple carriers

We shop coverage across a range of specialty and standard carriers instead of pricing everything through one company's rate table, so you see real options instead of a single take-it-or-leave-it quote.

Bundle for a better rate

Combine your Panoz with your home, everyday autos, umbrella liability, other collector vehicles, and — where it applies — your business insurance. Carriers price account relationships, and that often means meaningfully better terms across the board.

Four things a standard policy misses

01

Agreed value, not depreciated value

The payout is set when you bind coverage — not renegotiated by an adjuster using a generic sports-car valuation guide unfamiliar with a low-volume American builder.

02

Aluminum-intensive construction expertise

Coverage that pays for repair work by shops who actually understand Panoz's AIV aluminum space-frame construction, not a generalist shop guessing at an unfamiliar chassis.

03

Race-heritage & homologation-car coverage

For GTR-1 and race-adjacent Panoz models, coverage needs to reflect genuine competition heritage and, where applicable, track use — not a policy that assumes purely road-going history.

04

Specialist parts sourcing

With production numbering in the low hundreds and the marque no longer building new road cars at volume, parts sourcing needs realistic timelines built into any claims process.
